Girl From The Past
Words & Music by Roy Widing
You don’t know me
We’ve never met
Except when I
Saw your photograph
In a newspaper of old
Between World Wars
I saw your face
Girl From The Past
There on the page
Your story’s told
Trace of a life
It’s a silhouette
Of one so young
With such hope
Eternally
I saw your face
Girl From The Past
Why is it so hard
To comprehend
We have a Friend
When sparrows fall*
Try to make sense of it all
Yet we go numb
Open up your heart
Big and wide
Free what’s inside
And watch it grow
Then, you’ll start to know
And make it last
Like the Girl From The Past
What could have been?
Would you have wed?
Might you have known
Joys of motherhood?
These are the questions I ask
As I stand here
I see your face
Girl From The Past
*Matthew 10:29-31
‘Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.’
